Purpose:
To recognize classroom teachers who have made outstanding contributions to the teaching of economics.
Who is eligible?
(1) Candidates must be in the public or independent schools of Alabama.
(2) Candidates must either teach a course in economics OR integrate economics into other courses at any grade level, K – 12.
(3) Divisions:
- Elementary: K-6
- Secondary: 7-12
Candidates will demonstrate:
- Knowledge of economics appropriate to the grade level of courses taught.
- An ability and willingness to use a variety of appropriate methods and resources.
- Enthusiasm for the teaching of economics.

Entry Deadline: Friday, April 8, 2011
Entry requirements:
Candidates must submit all of the following:
Section I.
Candidate name, school, school system, school mailing address, school phone, school and/or home email, home mailing address, and home phone.
Grade level(s) taught, course(s) taught
Section II.
Answer the following questions. 500 words maximum per answer. Entries must be typed double-spaced using a 12-point font.
A. How have you utilized a variety of appropriate methods, strategies, and resources teaching economics?
B. How have you motivated students and generated enthusiasm for the study of economics?
Section III.
Submit sample unit of instruction.
Section IV.
You must submit three letters of recommendation from your choice of administrators, teachers, students, or parents. Each letter must be in a sealed envelope. Name of candidate must appear on front of this sealed envelope. Submit all sections of your application in a single packet.
Judging:
ACEE, or its designate(s), is the sole and final judge in all matters pertaining to this award.
Preparing your submission:
- Submit all sections of your application in a single packet.
- Do not submit photographs.
- Do not submit a cover letter.
Caveats:
- Incomplete entries will be disqualified.
- No full-time or part-time ACEE employee is eligible to enter this contest; nor are their relatives eligible to enter this contest. A teacher who has provided "casual labor" to ACEE e.g. taught a workshop as a "Master Teacher," is not considered an employee and is eligible to apply.
- All entries become the property of the Alabama Council on Economic Education and may be used with the names of entrants for publicity and other purposes. Submitting an entry constitutes you granting permission for ACEE to use your name and any portion of your application for publicity, fund raising and any other purposes determined solely by ACEE.
